There’s nothing better on an October day than a craft beer, soft pretzel, and a bit of college football. Pop over to Humboldt’s Crown Winery for a Tennessee-style celebration of Oktoberfest, complete with live music and the perfect autumn ambience.

22nd Annual Scholarship Banquet

Every fall, Union University hosts an unforgettable Scholarship Banquet with incredible keynote speakers from Tony Blair to George W. Bush, and this year you’ll get to hear from Christian music celebrity Chris Tomlin. Get to learn about the programs your donation will fund and enjoy either a balcony view or full dinner experience.

Calling all lovers of Cosplay, Star Wars, and superheroes—it’s time for the Jackson Comic Expo! Enjoy exploring everything from collectables and original artwork to costumes and gaming activities, as well as meeting the artists and writer behind your favorite comics.

KJ100 Kent Jones Bicycle Century Tour + 5K
Date: Saturday, October 12

Location: Jackson State Community College (2046 North Parkway)
Cost: $30 for bike ride ($35 day-of); $40 for families; $25 for 5k
Anybody up for a 100-mile bike ride? If you’re feeling ambitious, don’t miss the all-new KJ100 (formerly Bagels and Bluegrass), where you’ll explore all kinds of state parks and scenic routes while climbing a total of over 7,000 feet. Not a biker? Register for the 5k or take it easier with the Family Fun Ride.

Fall Color Tours

Cost: $200 for 1942 Boeing Stearman; $90 for 1929 Travel Air 4000
Nothing beats the warm hues of autumn, and there’s no better view than from above. Reserve your spot for McKellar-Sipes’ Fall Color Tour flights, running Thursday to Sunday. Both planes are over seventy years old, and the 1942 Boeing Stearman will actually give you the opportunity to fly the airplane yourself! But don’t worry—you can just sit back and relax on the 1929 Travel Air 4000; plus, it’s open to all ages!
Originally from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Katie Howerton moved to Jackson in 2011 to study Graphic Design and Drawing at Union University. She discovered Our Jackson Home in January 2015 and used it as a guinea pig for her senior design project, creating the first issue of Our Jackson Home: The Magazine. After graduating she was given leadership over Our Jackson Home at theCO, where she now runs the blog, designs the magazine, and coordinates events. She lives with her husband Jordan and daughter November in Midtown and loves her community at City Fellowship Baptist Church.
