19th Annual Jewel Awards Banquet

Now celebrating its nineteenth year, the Jackson-Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce (JMCAACC) is back with its beloved Black History Month celebration, the JEWEL Awards Banquet. This year’s show will feature musician Evvie McKinney, and awards will be given to some of our city’s best entrepreneurs of color while raising funds for the Follow Me Into Business program. Get a ticket for the show, or better yet purchase a dinner ticket to show your support and enjoy a lovely meal with your entertainment.

Every year, Congregation B’nai Israel opens its doors to the community to explore the differences between Christianity and Judaism. This year’s series kicked off in October and includes two sessions in February, featuring the wisdom of Dr. Mark Dubis, Dr. Ben Mitchell, Rabbi-Cantor John Kaplan, Rev. Paul Clayton, and Rev. Deacon Tommy Rhoads. Stop by to learn a bit more about these religion’s views on ethics and the Bible; all are welcome!

Originally from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Katie Howerton moved to Jackson in 2011 to study Graphic Design and Drawing at Union University. She discovered Our Jackson Home in January 2015 and used it as a guinea pig for her senior design project, creating the first issue of Our Jackson Home: The Magazine. After graduating she was given leadership over Our Jackson Home at theCO, where she now runs the blog, designs the magazine, and coordinates events. She lives with her husband Jordan and daughter November in Midtown and loves her community at City Fellowship Baptist Church.
