Jackson Sound Concert series at The Ned

The Jackson Sound Concert Series was launched by the Jackson Area Music Society and Smith E&E last November as an effort the feature all the musical talent featured in Jackson through creative events and venues, and this March, their hosting their first concert at the historic Ned theatre. This St. Patrick's Day show features local bands Backroad Therapy and The Skeleton Krew. (Make sure to check out the downtown bar crawl before and after the show, too.) Can't make it? If you know anything about The Augustine School here in Jackson, you know how dedicated they are to offering quality Christian education and encouraging creativity, and this year's symposium speaker, musician and author Andrew Peterson, is sure to back that up. Peterson has joined us for multiple concerts here in Jackson, so it will be great to hear more of his personal story in his presentation "The Power of Christian Imagination." While the event is free, we encourage you to bring your checkbook during this special opportunity to support this incredible school.

Steve Halla + Zac Benson Artist Lectures & Receptions

Did you know that Union University has one of Jackson's best art galleries, featuring both local and international artists? Not only that, but every time they exchange out shows (displayed for about a month for each), they host a free lecture and reception with the artist, available to the entire community! On March 1, they'll be wrapping up professor Steve Halla's stunning woodblock printing exhibit, and the following Tuesday will be the kick-off of a faith-and-society-themed sculpture collection by Cedarville University Assistant Professor and international artist Zac Benson. Can't make it to the lectures? No worries; the gallery is open throughout the week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

5k Undie Run/Walk

Location: University of Memphis at Lambuth (705 Lambuth Boulevard)

If you're not super athletic and need a chance to laugh at yourself a little this St. Patrick's Day, put your undies on outside of your pants and head over to U of M Lambuth for a 5k! The Student Nurses Association is hosting this race as a fun way to raise awareness for colorectal cancer, not to mention funds for research and treatment, all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Unsure whether to commit? You can register last-minute day-of at 8:00, and awards will be given to the top three runners in each category, as well as the top three overall men and women winners.

Ballet Arts of Jackson presents Beauty and the Beast
Date: Saturday & Sunday, March 17 & 18

Ballet Arts' spring productions never disappoint, and after bringing us classics like Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland in recent years, we're eager to bring the kids to another favorite: Beauty and the Beast. This show is great for the whole family, full of incredible athletic talent, phenomenal set design, and favorite storybook characters, and if you've got lots of little girls joining you, look into attending Belle's Tea Party for an additional $20. Keep in mind that this is the only ballet shown for 2018 outside of the annual Nutcracker, so don't miss the chance to experience it for yourself!

Originally from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Katie Howerton moved to Jackson in 2011 to study Graphic Design and Drawing at Union University. She discovered Our Jackson Home in January 2015 and used it as a guinea pig for her senior design project, creating the first issue of Our Jackson Home: The Magazine. After graduating she was given leadership over Our Jackson Home at theCO, where she now runs the blog, designs the magazine, and coordinates events. She and her husband Jordan live in Midtown and are active members of City Fellowship Baptist Church.
