It's officially summer, and that means that you're looking for events for the family even more than usual. Thankfully, June is full of family competitions, live music, and ways to keep both you and the kids learning all summer long. Check out what you've gotta be at this month.

Amp Music Series
Date: Friday, June 8 (The King Beez); Friday, June 29 (Little Boys Blue)
Time: 6:45 P.M. - 10:00 P.M.
Location: Jackson's AMP at the Market (91 New Market Street)
Cost: Free!
It's that time of year again, y'all: things are happening downtown most every Friday this summer, and the AMP Music Series is in full gear! June includes The King Beez and Little Boys Blue, and there's seven more performances spanning all the way through the end of September. Food trucks open at 6:45 P.M., and music begins at 7:30 P.M., so make sure to bring some cash and a picnic blanket to make the most of your evening. It's the perfect event for young kiddos to get some space to run around, too!

Country Music Lends Down a Hand Concert
Date: Wednesday, June 27
Time: 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.
Location: Casey Jones Amphitheatre (56 Casey Jones Lane)
Cost: $10 ($15 at the gate); free for ages five and under
Downs Syndrome effects so many families in Jackson and everywhere, and we're excited for an opportunity to both support and celebrate these amazing folks. Come out to the Casey Jones Amphitheatre for a night full of country music, food, and family fun. Some Jackson favorites will be there, such as Kimberlie Helton, Rev. Jessie & the Holy Smokes, and Shaun Abbott, and the show is bound to happen, rain or shine. (The amphitheatre is covered.)

theCO's Summer Workshop Series

Cost: $20-$75
Summer is just the time to get out and learn something new, and theCO has an entire workshop series just for that. This year's workshops run April through July, but June is the most packed month by far, with classes covering graphic design, screen printing, laser cutting, and photography, all taught by locals that Our Jackson Home knows and loves. It's the perfect Saturday getaway to plan with a pal—but sign up before tickets sell out!

Birth Choice Father Daughter Ball
Date: Saturday, June 16
Time: 6:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M.
Location: Fellowship Bible Church (141 Pleasant Plains Road)
Cost: $20 per couple ($5 for each additional daughter)
Make the most of this Father's Day with a night out with your little girl! Birth Choice is hosting their third annual Father Daughter Ball for ages fifth grade and up. Between dances, you'll have plenty of photo opps, snacks, and fun to enjoy with your favorite gal, and you can be encouraged that all your money goes back into this awesome ministry. Time to get dressed up and hit the dance floor!
Experience: Jackson's First-Ever Soccer Tournament
Hands Up! City Cup

Location: Downtown Jackson (corner of Main and Liberty)

If you're a lover of soccer (and a little competitive at heart), spend your Saturday competing in 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 matches in downtown Jackson—not to mention Soccer Tennis and a Panna Knockout Cage! What a better way to support such an awesome family non-profit than by getting the whole fam together for sports? But you better hurry! Registration ends June 1. Not much of an athlete? No worries; there will be plenty of action to watch, plus music and food trucks.

Originally from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Katie Howerton moved to Jackson in 2011 to study Graphic Design and Drawing at Union University. She discovered Our Jackson Home in January 2015 and used it as a guinea pig for her senior design project, creating the first issue of Our Jackson Home: The Magazine. After graduating she was given leadership over Our Jackson Home at theCO, where she now runs the blog, designs the magazine, and coordinates events.
